Hamsters are curious, mostly nocturnal animals that need more space and enrichment than many people expect.

Habitat

Choose the largest enclosure you can, with deep bedding for burrowing, a solid exercise wheel sized so their back stays straight, and places to hide.

Diet

A good-quality hamster food forms the base, with small amounts of fresh vegetables. Fresh water should always be available.

Handling

Let your hamster come to you, and scoop them up gently with both hands close to the ground. Avoid waking them during the day.
